Designing a man cave for your home hasn’t gone out of style. What has gone out of style is thinking that only men want to have a man cave. Therefore, we’re going to talk about designing a modern-day man cave, henceforth referring to it as a rustic country lounge area, and everyone is invited!

Designing a Rustic Country Lounge Area

Turning your basement or the attic into a comfortable lounge area where you can entertain and relax is a great use of space. It’s like giving yourself a little hideaway. No computers to check your work email, no laundry, and no bills to pay. This room should be like a mini-vacation from the rest of your life.
To keep with the cave metaphor, you will typically try to keep the design rustic and country. Using warm natural tones, leather, and wood is a great way to create a cozy little cocoon where you can escape life.
It’s like having your own ski lodge lounge bar right in your own home. It’s inviting, it’s warm, it’s luxurious, it’s peaceful, and it’s the perfect fall/winter addition to your Colorado home.

Comfortable Seating

Every rustic lounge area should have comfortable seating. There should be couches and chairs that you can sink into as you cozy up with a good book and a hot cup of cocoa. However, the seating can’t be so soft and comfortable that you can’t also sit comfortably and chat with friends, drinking wine and cocktails and watching sports or playing games. Mix up the seating, creating a few different sections for people to hang out.

Lighting

Having different types of lighting for the different lounge section will help create a relaxing ambiance. Of course, you don’t want it to be so dark that you can’t see where you’re going or what move your opponent just made. Play with the texture, shape, size, and brightness of your lighting fixtures and bulbs to create a little excitement in your design.

Reclaimed Wood

Reclaimed wood is a beautiful design feature for a rustic lounge area.

Reclaimed wood is a great addition to a country lounge and entertainment room. Reclaimed wood floors are both trendy, eco-friendly, and beautiful. They add charm and personality to a room.

Rustic Bar

No lounge and entertainment room is complete without a bar. Take some of the same reclaimed wood and design details to make a bar area that compliments the rest of the design.
Using similar colors and a few textures throughout will bring cohesion to the room. You’ll also want some cool and comfortable bar stools so that you can hang at the bar and keep the bartender company.

Plumbing and Electricity

Make sure that you have access to water for your bar area. You will need a sink and maybe even a dishwasher so you’re not stuck washing dishes in your relaxing lounge room. You’ll also want to have the right outlets and electricity for a refrigerator and freezer.

Pool Table and Games

The final touch to a lounge area is the pool table. Make sure there is enough space to move around, as well as good lighting over the pool table. You can also add other bar games, like darts. The classic chalkboard scoreboard is a must. Put various board games like chess or backgammon on some of the tables around the room.
