There’s no denying that a kitchen remodel is a huge task. It takes a lot of money, time, and energy to complete. One of the largest factors that will take the most time to design and fit in your new kitchen is the cabinets.

A great way to help you choose cabinets for a kitchen remodel is to visit your local showrooms. They will provide you with some inspiration, and many showrooms have pre-made kitchens you can view that have been designed by expert interior designers. While you’re in the showroom, you can talk to the experts. They will be able to advise you of the best materials to go for, and they can inform you of the most popular styles that they have available.

Biggest Mistakes in Kitchen Remodels

There are lots of common mistakes that people make when they choose cabinets for a kitchen remodel. One of these mistakes is having too few cabinets. Although minimalism is a huge trend at the moment, it isn’t very practical for kitchens.

You may enjoy creating an open and airy space in your kitchen area, but you should also think about storage space. You’re going to need room to keep your food, dining sets, and kitchen appliances, so factor this in when choosing your cabinets. Yes, you want a beautiful kitchen, but you should also want a functional kitchen!

How to Personalize Semi Custom Cabinets

Custom vs. Semi Custom Kitchen Cabinets

Semi custom cabinets are manufactured to standard sizes and finishes. However, compared to pre-made cabinets, you have more freedom to decide on the finishing touches.

Personalizing Your Semi Custom Cabinets

You can customize your semi custom kitchen cabinets to suit your style and needs.

There are several modifications and alterations you can make to your kitchen cabinets. Even though there are fewer changes you can make compared to custom cabinets, you can adapt your semi custom cabinetry enough to suit your style and preferences.

Important Factors to Consider

Consider the following factors when deciding how to add the personal touches to your new cabinets.

  • The Exterior Style – There are so many different materials and styles available for your cupboard doors. Maybe you want to go for a classic wood design or a more modern plastic.
  • The Color – The color makes a huge difference to the appearance of your kitchen. Whites and creams are popular at the moment, but you might prefer dark wood for your cabinetry.
  • The Finish – Whether you love glossy kitchen cabinets or you’d like to go for a traditional wooden look, you can choose the finish of your semi custom cabinets. Some companies offer unique finishes by using stains or distressing techniques too.
  • Your Kitchen Style and Design – Think about how your cupboards are going to match the rest of your kitchen.
  • Interior Organization – figure out your personal needs for space and storage in the kitchen. This may determine the layout and sizing of your new cupboards.

Kitchen Remodel: Where to Begin

A kitchen remodel is an extensive, yet exciting process. It’s the opportunity to stamp your class and personality on one of the most crucial spaces in your home. A kitchen remodel is an excellent opportunity to improve the value of your home. If you nail it, it will help you gain the kind of return you can use to fund your future investments.

But, much like any new activity, starting can be the most difficult part. Do you have your finances organized to do a proper kitchen remodel? Have you settled on the style you want to use for your kitchen? Not only do you determine your new kitchen’s appearance, but you also have to figure out how to preserve some of your current kitchen’s elements as well. So, where to begin?

Evaluate the Old Before Adopting the New

Before you upgrade your kitchen, you must first do a thorough evaluation of your current one. By determining what is wrong with your old kitchen, you can better formulate an idea of what works and what you can eliminate. A self-evaluation is always a great first step towards improving functionality and aesthetics of any environment.

Additionally, you should ask yourself if you are remodeling the whole kitchen or just getting new cabinets and countertops. Be confident and specific in what you’re looking to upgrade, then budget accordingly. And then maintain a dialogue with your contractor throughout the process so as to stay on track and on budget.

Give Considerable Thought to Your Cabinets and Countertops

Cabinets and countertops are the largest elements of a kitchen remodel and should be considered thoughtfully. The style, materials, and design of these elements are crucial to your kitchen remodel and can help extract additional value from your renovation.

If you have any doubts about how to approach these elements, visit a showroom and talk to our experts before making a final decision.

The Importance of Visiting a Showroom Before Remodeling Your Kitchen

If you are considering a kitchen remodel in your Denver home, you need a place to go to gather ideas. You need to know what options are available, what products to consider, and what trends and designs are in style and worth considering. One of the best ways to gather this information is through a showroom visit.

Before beginning your kitchen remodel, you should schedule a visit to a kitchen showroom. Here are three reasons why.

Visit a kitchen showroom in Denver to receive
design and product inspiration.

1. For Design and Product Inspiration

As you walk around a kitchen showroom, you may find that certain kitchen design trends, specific products, and various features will capture your attention. You may find certain items that you desperately want in your personal kitchen. A showroom is an excellent way to gather the inspiration you are looking for to create the perfect, customized space.

2. You Have Professionals to Ask Questions

When visiting a showroom, you will have a professional available to answer any questions you may have, provide guidance, address concerns, and more. This can help you take advantage of this time and ensure it is productive. You will leave having many questions answered and feeling excited about this next step in your homeowner’s journey.

3. You Will Become Familiar with Brands and Supplies

When it comes to a kitchen remodel, you don’t want to install low-quality supplies in your home that can be easily damaged, or that you will need to replace in a few short years. When you visit a showroom, you can become familiar with only the best brands available. You will feel more confident in your product choices, and you will create a kitchen that will last for years to come.

The Perfect Kitchen For Your Cabin Or Vacation House

You vacation home deserves just as much attention as your primary home.

Do you own a vacation home or cabin that needs a bit of work? As it is not your primary residence, you may be hesitant to spend money on renovations, as you are not there that often. However, you will see that simple remodels can make what little time you spend there much more enjoyable.

With more people working online, you may find yourself staying at your vacation home more often if you create a stylish and functional space.

Choose colors and materials that accentuate the location.

Define the Space and How Often You Use the Kitchen

When figuring out what kind of kitchen remodel to have done at your vacation home, you should first determine your primary uses for the space. If you love to cook but find you only make simple dishes when at your vacation home, you may want to spring for something more attuned to a cook’s needs.

If you like to entertain, you’ll want to spring for a kitchen design that will open up and expand the space to fit more people. Understanding what you want out of the kitchen and how often you will use it will help you make the kitchen remodel decisions.

Opt For Natural Elements

In most cases, peoples’ vacation homes or summer cabins tend to be in areas that are immersed in nature. The location of your vacation home can inspire the types of materials that you use within. If you are nestled amongst various trees, you may want to use wood for your countertops and floors, adding touches of stone and glass to bring out the sky.

If your vacation home is on the beach somewhere, you may want to keep your space light by using relaxing tones, light woods, and smooth slate for the flooring and countertops.

If you work with experts in kitchen design in Denver, you can be sure that you will choose all the right natural elements. Contact Kitchen Showcase to learn more about what we do.

Creating the Perfect Countertop-Backsplash Combo

How to Match Your Countertops and Backsplash?

When you’re working on your kitchen or bathroom design, certain elements are natural to choose because you, most likely, had them pictured in your mind for a while, like the color of the walls or the type of appliances.
When it comes to choosing countertops and backsplash, the decisions tend to get a little more complicated. Maybe you’ve been thinking of a specific type of countertop but never considered a backsplash or vice versa. The “perfect” combination is subjective, so it will really depend on what you want and how you make it harmonious.

Kitchen backsplashStrategy #1: Neutral + Pattern or Color

This is often the go-to for many people. Having one surface that has either a neutral color or a pattern, and then one other surface that has the opposite. For instance, you could have a black granite countertop and pair it with a colored or patterned tile for the backsplash.

Strategy #2: Two Patterned Surfaces

Although this might seem like too much, if you choose wisely, the result could be incredible. If you decide to go with something like marble countertops, something like a stone mosaic could be great for a contrasting backsplash. This works particularly great with natural stones and neutral colors.

Strategy #3: Match Your Countertops to Your Backsplash

If you love the material and color of your countertops, why not extend it and create a continuation that will add visual impact?

The way you decide to mix and match your countertops and backsplash depends on your taste, your kitchen design, and many other details. For achieving the kitchen of your dreams, the best thing you can do is have your project managed by a team of professionals. Our design team at The Kitchen Showcase, can bring your remodeling visions to life. Let’s talk and get started.

Saying Goodbye to the Old Kitchen, and Hello to the New

Kitchen remodel 2018

Happy New Year!

We’ve said goodbye to 2017, and hello to 2018. And, for that reason, it’s the perfect time to show you before and after photos of our latest kitchen remodel. We said goodbye to the old, dark kitchen, and hello to a clean, bright, and cozy modern kitchen.

Remodel your kitchen in 2018

Self-care and wellness are at the top of everyone’s new year’s resolution lists. When it comes to the home, the kitchen should be the first place you start a remodel. The kitchen is the heart of the home. Once you have your dream kitchen, it will pump fresh energy to the rest of the house. In 2018 there are two kitchen trends that will dominate over them all, and that’s a clean, bright, and functional design, mixed with warm earthy elements.

Modernizing an old kitchen
The old kitchen was too dark. We needed to brighten it up and make it modern and vibrant.

Brighten up your kitchen

The first thing we wanted to do to this kitchen was open it up and make it brighter. In an attempt to be warm and rustic, the old kitchen had made the mistake of making everything way too dark. There was no light in the old kitchen. Dark wood cabinets, with black countertops, black appliances, and dark wood floors overwhelm the entire design. All the dark tones completely swallowed up any light. We wanted to keep the warmth, but add some bright and vibrant elements to bring life back into this kitchen.

Kitchen design trends
Replace old dark cabinets with clean bright cabinets to modernize your kitchen.

White cabinets

To bring in the light, we brought in custom cabinets in a clean white color and minimalist design. The flat-front cabinet style doors are simple and elegant. We also added the latest trend in modern kitchen design: the big bottom drawers. Instead of lower cabinets, we added the uber-functional, fashionable, and fabulous drawers. Drawers are easy to organize, and you’ll never have to struggle to reach the stuff at the back of the cabinet.

Modernizing an old kitchen
There are too many dark elements in the old kitchen, making it feel stuffy and gloomy.

Grey countertops

We also changed the colors of the walls and ceiling to add more light, added a few modern grey tones to break up the white, but still, keep it fresh and modern. The old black countertops were also removed and replaced with matte grey countertops. And, for the centerpiece, the kitchen island, we added a beautiful white natural stone countertop.

Kitchen remodel inspiration
We kept it bright but broke up the white by adding modern grey countertops, and a beautiful white natural stone island countertop.

Warm design elements

By incorporating a few darker elements in the kitchen design we made this modern kitchen feel warm. The chocolate tones of the kitchen island and the hardwood floors make the kitchen feel cozy, not gloomy. Instead of black, which is much too dramatic, we toned it down with contrasting brown tones. It’s the perfect blend of the modern Scandinavian design and the rustic country style kitchen.

Modern kitchen design
We added warm elements, like a dark chocolate kitchen island and reclaimed hardwood floors.

Adding some texture and layers

Instead of having only recessed ceiling lights, like the old kitchen, we added a few hanging light fixtures over the island. The oversized lamps will add a bit of texture to the kitchen, filling out the space and making the whole look more interesting.

Modern kitchen remodel
Oversized hanging lamps add texture and layers, making the whole kitchen design much more appealing.
