6 Tips for a Spotless & Germ-Free Kitchen Sink

This essential kitchen element requires some cleaning of its own!

The kitchen sink is an integral part of any home. Whenever you think of a kitchen, you may actually visualize the sink’s location in regards to the stove and everything else, don’t you? Nowadays, it’s necessary for everyday living and to carry on daily tasks such as washing dishes and preparing food.
Since it is mainly used for cleaning and washing all the cooking utensils, you may think that only using a kitchen cleaning spray to wipe it down once in a while is enough to maintain it. But how often do you take the time to do a deep cleaning of your sink and garbage disposal (if you have one)?
The kitchen sink is the one place where odors, germs, and food scraps tend to accumulate; so that’s why doing a deep clean of your kitchen sink is necessary for the health and safety of your family and home.

How to Deep-Clean the Kitchen Sink Effectively

Germs and bacteria won’t just wash down along with the soap, water, and food particles when you do the dishes. To get rid of the grime and do a complete deep clean of the kitchen sink, you’ll need the following: liquid dishwashing soap, distilled white vinegar, baking soda, an old toothbrush and a soft sponge for a perfect polished finish.

  1. Thoroughly wipe down and rinse out your sink. If you have a stainless steel sink, you should use a mild soap and a nylon sponge or soft rag. Be aware that ammonia, bleach or abrasive cleaners can ruin the finish.
  2. Scatter the baking soda over the surface of your sink. Work it into a paste and rinse thoroughly.
  3. Soak paper towels in white vinegar and then line the sink with the wet towels. Let them sit for about 20 minutes. Clear and dispose of the paper towels.
  4. Rinse the sink with warm or hot soapy water.
  5. Wipe the faucet and handles with a mild soapy solution. Use the toothbrush to clean the hard-to-reach areas. If you see any spots lingering, use a cloth soaked in white vinegar to remove them.
  6. Once you’re finished cleaning, do one last deep rinse and dry with a soft rag. Your sink should now be shiny and squeaky clean!

Even though everyone knows how to wipe down a kitchen sink, we hope you find these steps to remove the accumulated germs and bacteria useful. And if you think that it is time to renew your tired kitchen in Denver and give it a new look, we can help!

Tips On How To Maintain Your New Cabinets

Kitchen Cabinets

If you’re a Colorado homeowner with a newly renovated kitchen, you may be wondering about the best practices for keeping your kitchen cabinets in good condition for as long as possible. After all, new cabinets are an investment that add style and value to your kitchen —  who wouldn’t want to keep them protected?

It’s essential to keep your kitchen as well maintained as possible. Thankfully, methods for protecting your kitchen aren’t complex. Here are a few ways you can protect your cabinets and get the most out of your kitchen.

Add Your Cabinets to Your Cleaning Regimen

The Best Tips to Clean Your Kitchen Cabinets
Always remember to use cleaning products that are safe for the material of your cabinetry.

Most homeowners have a weekly cleaning schedule that includes tidying up the kitchen and removing grease and debris from the floors and countertops. However, many of us forget that grime and grease from the food we cook can get onto our cabinets as well, which can lead to staining. Over time, this can affect the look of your cabinets and cause permanent damage. Make sure you wipe down your cabinets often with a safe cleaner.

Get Rid of Scratches

Scratches or nicks anywhere in the kitchen are an eyesore. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways you can cover up these unsightly marks and leave your kitchen looking brand new. The easiest way to handle a scratch on one of your cabinets is to buy touch-up supplies. Wood markers come in a variety of colors, and you’re more than likely to find one to match your cabinet. If your cabinet door has suffered a deep gouge, there are also filler kits available. If you aren’t sure which items to purchase for your cabinets, speak to your cabinet provider for an expert opinion.

Water or Moisture Damage

Thankfully, your sturdy countertops take the brunt of most spills. But sometimes, water and juice can spill over and leak onto your bottom cabinets. Additionally, moisture from cooking or boiling water can make its way onto your top cabinets. In either case, it’s important to protect your cabinet surfaces by wiping them down with a clean, dry cloth immediately after contact with moisture of any kind.

Here’s Why You Should Renovate With a Family-Owned Business

TKSI working process

There are plenty of kitchen installers in Colorado you can choose for your next renovation project. Some are family-owned businesses, and others are large companies. Though this may not seem like such a big difference — both types of businesses offer the same thing, after all — family-owned businesses like The Kitchen Showcase offer loyalty and service in ways that bigger renovators just can’t. But how do smaller businesses manage to make their customers so happy? Here are the three ways that a family-owned renovator can provide a better experience for you.

More One-On-One Time

When it comes to a successful renovation project, communication is key. Family businesses understand the importance of feeling valued and respected. That’s why they want to hear all of your ideas, down to the last detail, and incorporate them into your new kitchen. With a family-owned business, you’re more likely to be kept in the loop during each and every stage of your home renovation project.

With our team, you can compare kitchen cabinets at our kitchen showroom in Denver.

More Flexibility

Large renovation companies are often guilty of having prices and practices too strict to meet the needs of their customers. A family-owned business is more willing to find ways to work with your budget and offer cost-effective options that won’t leave you in major debt. If the renovation you want is expensive, family-owned businesses tend to offer different monthly payment plans.

Friendly Staff

For a smaller, family-owned business, it’s crucial to have the right staff on board. Larger companies often hire candidates based on skills and qualifications. But smaller teams know that for quality customer service — and to assure unity behind closed doors — it’s important to hire employees with a great attitude and incredible work ethic.

If you’re looking for a quality renovation team you can trust, The Kitchen Showcase has your back. We’re Colorado’s best family-owned and operated renovators, and we’re happy to help with your kitchen and bath needs. Call or email us today to learn more.

Three Types of Wood for Your Cabinets and Built-In Furniture

Using wood in your kitchen, living room, bedroom, and the bathroom is a classic and timeless choice. Wood gives you so many options as each type of wood has different characteristics, colors, textures, and hues. Whatever your decorative style, natural wood materials will give your home instant appeal. Let’s look at three popular wood choices for cabinets and built-in home furniture.

Common wood types for home decor

Three of the most popular wood choices for the home (or anywhere) is oak, maple, and walnut. Each type of wood has different characteristics that make them distinct, but the biggest sales point for using wood is that they are a natural material. There are engineered materials that will recreate the look and appeal of wood, but nothing beats the real thing in appearance, quality, and style.

Characteristics of oak

Characteristics of oak wood

There is both red and white oak, and each has different physical characteristics. The most obvious difference is in the color. White oak will give you the classic golden blonde hues, whereas red oak will have dominating reddish brown tones. Choosing between the two depends on your taste and the rest of the decor and color palette in your home. The grain pattern in oak is also very subtle and beautiful, ranging from linear to the classic “cathedral” grain pattern depending on the cut of the wood. Oak is also popular due to its strength and durability, both important qualities in cabinetry and built-in furniture. If you have a specific color in mind for your cabinets, white oak is easier to stain than red oak.

Characteristics of maple

Characteristics of maple
Maple wood

For a light, airy, and modern design, maple is a perfect choice. Maple ranges in colors from almost white to golden tones. The grain is smooth and delicate, so it won’t be too distracting if you choose to use maple for all of your cabinets. Because of the light colors, maple is also easy to stain in any color you desire, or you can enhance the natural tones and textures of the wood with a clear finish.

Characteristics of walnut

Characteristics of maple
Chocolate brown walnut

Walnut has a wide range of colors and textures. If you are going for a rustic farmhouse style, then walnut is a great choice of wood. The colors range from golden brown to dark brown, and the grain is more pronounced than oak and maple. The grain gives the wood more texture, which will give it more of an antique and aged look. You can use a clear stain to celebrate the natural variances in the wood tones, or you can even out the color differences with a colored stain.

Custom Cabinets with Smart Storage Spaces

Custom vs. Semi Custom Kitchen Cabinets
Mix and match custom and semi-custom kitchen cabinets.

A kitchen may look all stylish and awesome, but if it doesn’t have storage space for all your utensils, then it is not a functional and useful kitchen for you.
The only way to get exactly what you want is to get your cabinetry custom designed. If you’re remodeling your kitchen, making smart choices is the biggest trend. Custom designing your cabinetry is the only way to ensure that you are taking advantage of every inch of your kitchen. Our designers are ready to take on your next kitchen design project and to help you design some smart storage spaces in your kitchen to make it functional for a 2017 family.

Cabinet space for appliances

When we talk about making smart choices in kitchen cabinetry design, we’re not just talking about matching the color, the materials, and the finish to the rest of the home. We’re talking about designing smart spaces for your smart devices. In the past, you’d be looking to find space and an outlet for your kitchen appliances, but now we’re going to need to have space to recharge and store our tablets, phones, and laptops.
Of course, you could just add more outlets, but then you’re taking up precious counter space with a million electronics, cords, and cables looking disheveled and hazardous. When you custom design your cabinets, you can create either a hidden storage space or a storage space out in the open, but a space that is specifically designed to keep your electronics charged as well as out of the way of the chef. The last thing you want is to be tripping over your phone, dropping your tablet on the floor, spilling hot liquids, and causing an accident.

Colorado kitchen design experts

kitchen cabinets denverWhen you’re talking to one of our designers about your vision for your new kitchen, it’s important that we talk electronics. The kitchen is the hub of the home. If you have an open kitchen with a sitting area for the family and friends, it’s important that you take all devices into consideration. A functional kitchen should have a space for everything. We can help you stay organized and customize each cabinet to fill a specific purpose, whether it’s a charging station for electronics or a shelf big enough for your antique punch bowl that you inherited from your grandma.
When you get customized cabinets, you get something that is unique to your lifestyle. Don’t compromise. Get the kitchen of your dreams at The Kitchen Showcase.

Is a Single-Bowl or Double-Bowl Sink Better for Your Kitchen?

Kitchen hardware & Accessories in Denver

Back before automatic dishwashers became a kitchen staple, Colorado homeowners installed double-bowl sinks. Users used one compartment for washing dishes, while the other was used to rinse and dry dishes. As sensible as this is, many people don’t consider double sinks completely necessary anymore now that almost every home in the country has an automated washer. But new technologies aside, should homeowners still consider a double-sink in their kitchens? Or is it better to stick with the ever-popular single-bowl sinks that are appearing in newly renovated kitchens today?

Take a look at the pros and cons of each, and see which one is the best fit for your kitchen.

Single-Bowl Sinks

Pros:

-They’re a better fit for small kitchens. If you’re looking for a sink to install in your kitchenette or condo, a single-bowl sink will provide more counter space.

-Single-bowl sinks often have bigger bowls, which makes it easier for users to wash larger items like roasting pans, or pasta pots.

-The larger space of a single-bowl sink means you can store dirty pots and pans as you cook, so your kitchen stays organized.

Cons:

-Single-bowl sinks are essentially one-use-only when it comes to doing any kind of work in the kitchen. If your sink is full of dishes, it can be a little difficult to fill up a pot, a glass, or a vase with water. Even washing your hands can be a bit of a challenge, unless you clear the sink first.

– If you have a garbage disposal, you won’t be able to access it unless your sink is clear of water or dishes.

Double-Bowl Sinks

Remodeling the kitchen
Double-bowl sinks are popular among home owners for their versatility.

Pros:

-They’re a great way to wash dishes by hand. One compartment can be used for washing while the other can be used for drying.

-Double-bowl sinks can be used for dual tasks. While one side may be used to store used pots, the other can be used for food prep.

-Your garbage disposal will always be accessible, so long as you dedicate the other sink to washing and storage.

Cons:

-They can take up quite a lot of counter space, which isn’t ideal for those with smaller kitchens.

-Despite their capacity to take up more counter space, the individual sink components themselves are smaller, meaning it’s harder to wash larger items.

-They can be more expensive than single-bowl sinks, though prices will always vary depending on the make and model.
