Holiday Hours at The Kitchen Showcase

Upgrade your Front Range kitchen

Like most people, we’ll be closing the shop and heading home to our own kitchens to prepare a big holiday meal for our families, or maybe we’re heading to someone else’s kitchen, nibbling on snacks and watching football while someone else slaves in the kitchen. Whatever the holiday season has in store for you, you can almost be certain that the kitchen is going to play a major role. So, while we don’t have time to remodel our kitchen days before the holidays, we can warn you about common Thanksgiving and holiday mistakes that people make when it comes to prepping, cooking, and serving.

Holiday cooking mistakes

The three biggest mistakes that people make when cooking their holiday meals are:

  • Not buying enough food – Mainly, not buying enough turkey or whatever protein you eat for the holidays.
  • Not thawing your turkey – The larger the turkey (or other protein), the longer it needs to thaw. Thawing a turkey could take a few days in the refrigerator, so clear some space and get that turkey out of the freezer in good time to be ready for Thanksgiving.
  • Not planning the prepping and the cooking – There are a lot of components that need to be planned meticulously so that everything is finished at the same time, or you could end up with cold gravy, an undercooked turkey, and an overcooked string bean casserole.

When we design a kitchen for our clients, we design right down to the smallest detail. Everything is important when you’re designing your dream kitchen, and the type of faucet you choose can have a big impact on the final product.

The faucet should flow with your kitchen design

Denver kitchen designers
Bronze faucets are right on trend for a contemporary country kitchen.

Kitchen design trends are leaning towards taking the old country kitchen and giving in clean lines and a smooth aesthetic. We don’t think about the faucet a lot when we’re thinking about how to design a kitchen, but the faucet is usually front and center, so it’s important to pick the right one so that it doesn’t throw off the aesthetic.
We’re seeing a lot of grays in modern kitchen design, so switching your faucet from the classic shiny silver metal to a matte black is a bold statement in your kitchen. It’s the perfect way to get a touch of country in a modern kitchen.
If black is too bold of a statement, think about getting a faucet in a warmer color, like golden browns, rose, and champagne. Your kitchen should be a place where people feel welcome and comfortable. Soft, earthy tones can help you achieve that.

Match your pots and pans

Traditional kitchen design in Denver
Little things, like choosing the right faucet, can have a big impact on your whole kitchen design.

Think about what else you’re going to have on display in your kitchen. Are you hiding everything behind custom kitchen cabinets, or do you have all of your pots and pans hanging above your kitchen island? Try to keep a complimentary color palate throughout your kitchen. You don’t want it to be too busy, and you don’t want your faucet to stand out like a sore thumb because you forgot to consider the whole kitchen design. The small details, like choosing the right faucet, are what gives your kitchen personality.

Faucets are getting smarter and more functional

Hands-free, multiple spray functions, and being able to pull out and pull down your faucet is another way to make your kitchen more functional. Faucets are getting smarter and more sanitary – two very important facets of kitchen design.

Grays are replacing natural wood cabinetry

Shades of gray are the hottest kitchen and bath trends for 2016.

Both the kitchen and the bathroom should be light and vibrant and welcoming, but working with shades of white is seen and done. For a refreshing new look for your kitchen and bath, look for cabinetry in gray and silver colors. Gray makes a little more of a statement than white, and it still goes with all other colors and textures. Grays can go from almost white, to almost black, giving you more than 50 shades of gray to play with to express your personality.
The perfect shade of gray can make your kitchen and bath look expensive, without being flashy.

Cast iron hardware and black appliances

Since the return of the rustic kitchen, and the new trend towards gray cabinetry and walls we see a trend toward country chic matte black hardware. Accent your grays with cast iron knobs, pulls, hinges, towel bars, toiletry holders, and more.
Similarly, you’ll be seeing a lot more black or dark appliances in the kitchen. A black oven is like a modern day take on having a cast iron pot bubbling over an open fire.

The added beauty of matte colors

Matte gray colors are contemporary country chic.

Matte colors, as opposed to glossy, have the added benefit of hiding dirt and oil better. Family homes with kids will appreciate matte colors being able to hide the inevitable oily finger and handprints of kids running about the house.

Express your personal style

Just because it’s trendy, doesn’t mean it suits your style. Personal style is the biggest trend of all. It is what keeps us innovative and always looking for new ways to help our clients design their dream kitchen and bath.

The Hottest Kitchen Design Trends of 2016

Choosing the right gray tones for the kitchen

Our designers are constantly on the lookout for the latest trends and design ideas. When we look to the future of kitchen design, a few trends are sticking out. If you want to give your kitchen an upgrade and make it more modern, consider a few of the latest trends in kitchen design.

Remodeling your kitchen in Denver
Your cabinetry doesn’t all have to be the same color, as long as they are complimentary.

Mixing complementary colors

You don’t want to overwhelm our kitchen with too many colors, but you also don’t want to make it dull by matching every countertop and cabinet door. A modern, but rustic, kitchen trend is mixing the colors of your cabinetry. The colors should be complementary, but having the cabinets a different complementary color than the drawers can add dimension and vitality to your kitchen. It can also make it look like it was something you did on a whim one weekend when you had the cabinetry custom designed to fit your kitchen and your color palate.
Light and bright colors are often matched to create the illusion of more space. A brightly colored kitchen will also seem more inviting and invigorating.

Sustainability

For the Colorado home, the country feel is bringing back the old wooden countertop for a more homey feel. Plus, a wooden countertop is much more sustainable than other materials. Sustainability and environmental responsibility are at the forefront of all interior design, from the kitchen to the bath to every other room in the house.

Opening up your kitchen

Any little trick that can be used to make your kitchen feel bigger and more spacious is right on trend. A few big cabinet, as opposed to rows of little cabinets, give the illusion of having more space. Shelves or cabinets with glass doors exposing the back wall can also be effective in making your kitchen feel bigger, rather than rows of cabinets taking up all the space.

Planning and Designing the Perfect Kitchen

Benefits of visiting a kitchen showroom

Planning and designing a kitchen

There’s a lot that goes into designing the perfect kitchen. The kitchen is the heart of the home, and it should reflect your lifestyle. A kitchen is both functional and fashionable. Our design experts are meticulous in helping your plan and design your dream kitchen.

Too many cooks in the kitchen

Cooking as a family is a great way to spend quality time, but if your kitchen is cramped or poorly designed, you can feel like there are too many cooks in your kitchen. It’s an old adage, but our design experts would say that there is no such thing as too many cooks, just poorly designed kitchens.

When we sit down to help you plan out your new kitchen, it’s not just about your favorite color or the type of cabinet that you like; it’s about suiting your new kitchen to your lifestyle and the way you live as a family. If you often have five people in the kitchen rinsing, peeling, chopping, and cooking, then our experts will help you work with the space you have to help accommodate all the cooks that you want in your kitchen.

With the kitchen being a drawing point for guests and visitors, it’s important to consider whether “hanging in the kitchen” is something that you want to encourage or discourage. Maybe you like to cook alone while everyone else is in the next room. If that’s the case, you don’t have to create a space in your kitchen for entertaining. However, if you don’t want to miss out on the fun because you’re stuck preparing food for your guests, then we can help you create a comfortable hang-out space.

Choosing appliances and cabinets for kitchen
How you grocery shop will affect the design of your kitchen.

Choosing appliances

Your shopping habits also come into consideration. Of course, a bigger family is going to shop for more food and will require storage space and refrigeration, but some families shop in bulk, some shop for a whole week, and others shop as they need to shop – a little here and a little there. However you like to shop, we want to know, as it is all taken into consideration when we plan your new kitchen.

To do our job right, we need to get to know our clients, their habits, likes and dislikes, and lifestyle. It’s not every day you can afford, or have the time, to remodel your kitchen. Make sure you fill out our kitchen design questionnaire so that our design experts can help you plan and design a kitchen to fit your lifestyle and your aesthetic style.
